I've made the announcement earlier in the website of Iman Notes. And I think it is very much important to discuss now, as May 5 is coming near our doorstep. This was the day last year, when George Floyd was murdered by some Police officers which flared a huge movement that surged around the whole world. People spoke up and protested against racism. This kind of movement is a highlight in the human history.
Human is Homo Sapience, and it is similar for each and every humans. But this wasn't the idea among the elite group or high-classed people in our society. They choose human based on their race and it went on for many centuries. Many people have tried and most of the time they succeeded to stop the influence of racism. But it was a small number in ratio of the required change.
Today I will discuss the whole matter with you in my new blog, Imancipation where I will discuss current social problems and other matters including recent politics. 'Imancipation' is a part of 'Iman Notes' works I am doing, but the genre of work is different than the main line of work I do in the 'Iman Notes' website.
I thought it might be a bit odd, and little hard for people who likes books to find politics and other genres mixed together in one place. So, keeping the old system in line, I will only publish articles that goes with books and other matters. But as 'Imancipation' is a part of 'Iman Notes', the updates of this website will be given in the upcoming section of the website too.
Anyway, I got a bit side-tracked talking about the new blog which was necessary in case you're wondering why I had started writing in a different blog. Let's start.
Part 1: From One Pair
This could be a bit odd for some people who support Darwinism, but from all the information I've got, Darwinism isn't much strong enough to stand though it stands because of some of its famous controversies. I don't know why people likes to think they're descended from monkeys or more particularly apes. It's absurd!
Anyway, if you like to think that, then it's your own choice. I will not argue about that in an article with different issue to be discussed. The main point is, whether we're from Apes or the first human pair, we've stills started from the same situation and our origin is same. In time, our language changed and texture changed with the geographical location and climate.
But we don't take it in mind a lot these days, as many of us are atheists and try to stay that way. Anyway, let's see if I can understand you all in the next part.
Part 2: Same Blood
I cannot tell the DNA is same. But we all have red blood cell in all of our bodies. We all have epidermis to cover us. We all have neurons and brains to be different from all the creatures and be the most forward species of all time.
Skin color, body, accent and language, family, and many other points are considered when a person influenced in racism works. But why don't we see the similar anatomy of each and every human beings around the world. Our outer structure doesn't matter as long as we are human. But the problem is, many people doesn't consider other races as human.
Part 3: Slaves
The tradition of slaves is long gone (though various investigations suggests it exists undercover). If we look back, people from Africa had been the most victim for this act. They used to brace slavery when they found that they had no food or no way to keep themselves alive. But for this act that was done after being desperate, they had to suffer for that for their whole life and even their offspring suffered after them.
When we think of slavery now, we just spit in disgust. When we read that in any old stories or find that in any movies, it makes our mouth filled with distaste. But at the old period, it was a normal thing that people had. Even the pilgrims migrating from Europe to America brought slaves from their homes to work for them. They even tried to take over the poor American Indians from their lands.
At that time, the minds and path-of-thinking of many people was some. When we read, we can find many great people having slaves. At that time, this was the mentality that the autocrat society had and the slaves also braced this life for themselves.
If we see the American history, there was even a war called American Civil War between two sides of one country over keeping slaves. Many people even joined the south or Confederates when the war begin. Why? We can say that the mentality of the people was still left to be changed. And another reason is that many people used to rely on slaves for their work. The vast farmlands in south was actually growing based on the slave-works.
These kind of calls against racism was revolutionary. But things weren't perfect so fast. Union won the war, but they needed to convince the people about anti-slavery. Unfortunately, for President Abraham Lincoln it was too late as he was murdered. It took time and slowly things began to look forward. Various people have come forward and spoke up against racism. Among them we know Martin Luther King and his famous speech "I have a dream..."
Selling humans was also a tradition in the old Arab. Girls were even buried as thinking that being a humiliation. By the arrival of Muhammad (Sallalahu Alihiwa Sallam), he brought a revolutionary change. He labeled the women folk much higher than the Arabs even dreamed of. He said that under the feet of your mother lies heaven. He even promised heaven for those who care for their female child. Think about saying out loud "I need slaves" in the middle of a Black Lives Matter protest; the consequence will be very severe. This similar thing happened in Arab, which people didn't accept.
Prophet also said about freeing slaves, and gave many instructions and reasons why you should free slaves. Slowly people started to accept it, but it was still available in the people like it did for America though there was a big Civil War.
Part 4: Modern Slavery
Recently I've seen an episode of a show from YouTube called Patriot Act which streams on Netflix and was hosted by Hasan Minhaj. This episode said about the gaming industry and behind-the-scenes of this industry.
The information I've received from the show and clips, was clear to blow my mind. The modern slavery that still lingers among us is visible. They won't call you a 'slave' but employee. But they'll blackmail you in such a way that you need to work 24/7 to stay alive in your job. When I found about those persons who had to work in solitary-away from their family and could see their family in weekends only, I was so upset and thought about the games we play. This is similar as eating grains from the farmlands of south worked by slaves.
Maybe you think it isn't racism. But what you will tell about the women in the jobs being harassed and their were various disgusting attempts. I think you understand what I mean, and I am truly forced to say things like that when I am not suppose to look around the world in this perspective.
From the acknowledgement section at the end, you've surely went to the video and watched it. I am reminding you about the COO who was condemned of a serious act but is now reinstated in the office. According to the show, the COO had negotiated with the legal authority but had done that illegally. When people rely on the laws to protect them and don't get any result, what'll they think about the whole society?
Our society went much further and improved a lot. But it's like the - "Don't judge a book by its cover" phrase. We have improved a lot in abstract way, but the mentality and the sense of domination still remains among us. And that is why many of the industrial tycoons likes to dominated, exploit and blackmail their workers to work for the company that fuels the economy of the countries. This economy is surely based on modern-slavery!
I know that these are sensitive points to touch. But what'll you do when you see people who's asking for help but aren't helped by anyone? I cannot do anything physically as I don't have much influence in all that, but I am using my writing hand to say something up. Because someday you may also face the same disease that haunted those poor people. Maybe not you, but your next generations aren't unlikely to face it.
I think we should discuss the new kind of racism in the next part and it will make things easier.
Part 5: Modern Racism
The modern racism is now undercover. You can't see it visibly but it is so well hidden that if you speak up and point the racist act out, you'll surely be called a madman. And that's what makes this kind of racism so stronger and harmful for the human society. In the past, people could point things out openly and raise their voice. But now you don't fight war with big forces marching to conquer lands; now you fight war with secrecy and that's what makes it so deadly.
If you can hack the database of your enemies, you'll surely succeed to literally see the whole country naked. If you can take over an important office of your enemies via an agent, you are already ahead of ruling the countries. The politics and this kind of invasion at present, makes it so different that the first two World Wars. And that is why you don't see any world war coming upon us!
Anyway, modern racism is very simple. And you can't even protest about it. In different regions, racism is done in different way. There is religious racism when a person of other religion isn't given work in a rightful place; there is color racism when a person of other color isn't given rightful demand; there are more racisms that issues from - other countries, other lineage et cetera. I even say that when any office gives a person a job or promotion due to bribe or power is also a kind of racism.
Part 6: Black Lives Matter
Black Lives Matter is a great changing movement that alerted the whole world about the injustice due to racism. It not only represented black people, it also widely represented people of many other races. This movement ignited many other big movements around the world. This sudden movement and act of the citizens made the world leaders to think about the racism that are evolving in their countries.
I support all the movements that the 'official' organizers of BLM organized. But there were some major looting and violent acts in the movement done by some people who doesn't want the movement to be successful. Anyway, it was necessary in case some people may wonder what about all the violence that occurred during BLM movement.
If I am forced to define BLM movement as 'violent', I need to define the ongoing act of racists from many ages as 'infinitely-violent'. These people have tortured and cause trouble for the people of other races for many years. This new movement of justice have enlightened the whole world about the old concept that was ignored for many centuries.
Part 7: Extinction
Many aboriginal or people of other races are near the extinction or we don't know much about their culture. The Indian-American people faced injustice many years ago, and now you don't find much about them popularly. But deep research will reveal their rich culture and you cannot deny that their culture can compete yours too.
We've advanced a lot and the sense of domination have eased now more than before. But the little lingering sense of domination is keeping the racism alive. And this is how racism is surging in many places of our planet. We need to banish the concept from our heads.
For the acts of domination, humans have ignored the people of smaller races for many years. But still many people are trying to bring up the idea before us. I hope you'll understand how important it is for us to learn the culture of others and respect them.
Part 8: Justice
The justice system around the world doesn't truly do justice. I've seen enough of the world to understand that the justice system is not always pure and may sometimes be compromised. But many movements like BLM are trying harder to bring up the issue before the world media and leaders.
When you're harassed or harmed by a law enforcement officer or a person who is ordered to protect you, you don't have many people around you to look out for. This when the voices of many people is required to stand up. Justice is very much cheap for people with power and wealth, but it is very rare for people with no such power or wealth. And that is why our faith in the justice system is not always present.
Recent circumstances shows us glimpses of the justice department that are accepted by mass people. Like the verdict for Derek Chauvin. I truly hope that the people of this department won't be compromised by the greed of wealth or power.
Part 9: Suggestions
Here are some suggestions I've watched or done till now that may make the content enjoyable and give you a good idea about what I've discussed. You can watch The Trial of the Chicago 7 for understand the problem in the justice system.
You can also read Race to the Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse from 'Rick Riordan Presents' imprint to read about the Navajo mythology. You can also read Curse of the Ancients by Matt de la Peña in the Infinity Ring series from Scholastic Inc to know some about the old Mayan culture. You can read The Storm Runner series by J. C. Cervantes for Mayan and Aztec mythology. You can read the whole ongoing Tristan Strong series by Kwame Mbalia where he stitches the story from African-American mythology.
At the end you can find all the links and link to suggestions from Rick Riordan on his birthday about that time. There is also another music you can listen by Maher Zain called Break the Chains. I think there are more books that I haven't read, or movies I haven't watched. You can try it out from any good suggestions.
Part 10: Epilogue
Dedication: I don't have much to dedicate here. But this article is dedicated to George Floyd and the whole BLM movement.
Remembering: I remember the sorrowful incident last year in May 5 that made us all realize that humans still need to change though we're advanced. George Floyd may've died, but his death kept all the victims of racism united and head-high.
